Description
A free sample of cable TV programming periodically offered to both existing subscribers and non-subscribers alike is a useful tool for cable operators to increase their revenue base. These promotional events act as an enticement to the viewer to subscribe to the cable service that is being promoted. However, without the ability to perform this scheduling remotely, the costs associated with truck rolls for service installation can be prohibitively expensive.
This is where Electroline Promotion Scheduling Software (EPSS) and the Electroline addressable tap system demonstrate their value. Together, they enable on/off control and access to sample programming without the need for costly truck rolls.
EPSS is an application designed to manage promotional events and control the status of addressable
taps that allow or deny access to cable TV programming. This software is used along with a control unit to send commands to set the status of the addressable tap to allow access on a temporary basis until the end of the promotional event. It can be applied to individual taps or a defined group(s) of addressable taps. At the end of the promotional event, the software resets all of the concerned addressable taps to their pre-promotion status.
Web access enables users to create “Promotion Groups” containing tap addresses, set up promotional events and schedules, and start and/or stop promotional events for those groups.
The EPSS is web-based and runs on Microsoft IIS Web Server. The EPSS application is JavaScript/HTML-based with a PHP interface. The database is built over Microsoft Access.
